New York State Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie appointed the new 48th District Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein to serve on several prominent committees on Tuesday.
Eichenstein will serve as a member of the Aging, Cities, Housing, Real Property Taxation and Social Services committees. Eichenstein plans to use these committee assignments as an opportunity to address significant needs of his district.
Eichenstein, who replaced longtime represents Assemblyman Dov Hikind in representing Boro Park and parts of Midwood, said the appointments reflect his commitments to his district and its specific needs.
“As every day 10,000 baby boomers enter retirement age, I welcome the appointment to the Aging Committee. In conjunction with the Social Services committee, I strive to expand access to those crucial social services that so many families and seniors rely upon.”
Representing Brooklyn, Eichenstein said he will make sure his borough and city will not be ignored in Albany.
“Living in Borough Park is both a joy and a burden. Nobody would call finding affordable housing in Brooklyn a walk in the park,” Eichenstein stated. He plans to focus on the community’s housing needs as well as fighting for a fairer property tax system.
Eichenstein thanked Speaker Heastie saying, “I would like to take a moment to thank Speaker Heastie for placing his trust in me and appointing me to serve on these critical committees. I look forward to serving on these committees and with my fellow assembly members. Together, we will fight for our communities needs while sharing a common goal of a brighter New York.”
