In 2023 content creator, Dovid Taub, launched his “Creative Judaism” project with a booklet called “Moreh Hameshuamamim – Guide for the Bored” for the Yomim Noraim. Filled with whimsical doodles, out-of-the-box Divrei Torah and odd activities you can do around your shul, the booklet was geared towards those, like Taub himself, who struggle with boredom during long stretches in shul on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Since then, he created multiple podcasts and released several more booklets for various Yomim Tovim. Now he has just released an all-new, full-color second volume for this year: “Guide for the Bored 5786”
In his introduction to the new booklet, Taub writes about boredom “You could try to plow through it – just stay focused on the words until you break through. I do that sometimes with mixed results. But the goal of this booklet is to try to find back doors.” These “back doors” come in the form of games, Divrei Torah and drawings that invite the reader to explore the familiar experiences of shul on the Yomim Noraim in absurd new ways.
Taub concludes in his introduction: “There are so many sights, sounds and ideas associated with these days that can spark our imaginations. Maybe if we try enough of them we’ll find a secret passageway to some of that out-of-reach meaningfulness.”
You can download the PDF for free here, which can be printed full page or as a booklet. The booklet may be printed and shared freely.
