Governor of Florida Ron Desantis led a delegation of about 100 Floridians on a 5-day trade mission to Israel this week that signed several memorandums of understanding with Israeli companies and universities.
The First Amendment Foundation, joined by the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald, filed a complaint Tuesday in Leon County Circuit Court contending that officials are “willfully violating” parts of the state Constitution, the Bay Times reported.
They said that the meeting held by DeSantis and the state’s three independently elected Cabinet members was a violation of Florida law because it wasn’t accessible to Floridians.
Judge Angela Dempsey, who was assigned the case, rejected the emergency complaint in a brief decision Tuesday afternoon, noting “there is no indication the Summons have been served” to the defendants.
DeSantis proudly forged on with the visit which was accompanied by Rabbi Schneur and Chanie Oirechman, Directors of Chabad Lubavitch of the Florida Panhandle.
Thursday, the final day of the trip included a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a roundtable discussion on school safety and security and a visit to the Old City of Jerusalem.
They were accompanied by Rabbi and Mrs. Oirechman and Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.
The Governor placed a prayer note in the Kotel wall, asking for Florida to be spared this hurricane season.
The trip concluded later that evening, with a dinner hosted by Duty Free Americas CEO Simon Falic and his wife Jana in their home in Jerusalem, attended by President Donald Trump‘s Advisor Jason Greenblatt and Tammy Friedman, wife of Ambassador David Friedman.
