This Shabbos, the Crown Heights community will host Shabbat in the Heights, an annual Shabbaton that brings Jewish men, women, and families from communities across the country to the Rebbe’s Shchunah to experience Chassidic life in a personal way.
Coordinated by JLI, the all-inclusive weekend contains all the trademark JLI attention to detail and feels like a mini-retreat, complete with plentiful food and entertainment.
“Throughout Shabbos, guest lecturers and study groups provide opportunities to study the Rebbe’s teachings and illuminating perspective on life and its purpose,” says Rabbi Shmuly Karp, director of the program. A guided tour of the Rebbe’s shul, the Rebbe’s room, and the Rebbe’s home allows a glimpse into life with the Rebbe and insight into how he inspired his thousands of emissaries, leaders in their own right, in Jewish communities in every corner of the globe.
During the packed program, participants will be inspired by Shluchim, Rabbi Aryeh Weinstein, Rabbi Chaim Hanoka, Rabbi Zalman Marcus and Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie as well as JLI staff including Rabbi Mordy Dinerman and Rabbi Zalman M. Abraham. They will have an opportunity to meet and learn with several Crown Heights figures including Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Rabbi Ephraim Piekarski, Rabbi Levi Gorelick, Rabbi Hillel Zaltzman, Rabbi Zev Katz, Professor Baruch Bush, Rabbi Michoel Muchnik and Rabbi Shea Hecht, as well as Mrs. Devorah Halberstam, Mrs. Baila Olidort, Mrs. Bronya Shaffer, Mrs. Sara Lieberman, Mrs. Dina Rosenfeld, Mrs. Shaindy Jacobson and Mrs. Molly Resnick. Rabbi Burt Siegel, a reform Rabbi turned Chabadnik will share his journey at the Melave Malka.
After preparing for the visit with the JLI lesson, Standing Below, Connecting Above, the Shabbaton will culminate with a trip to the Rebbe’s Ohel on Sunday afternoon.
