Crown Heights Shmira and the NYPD responded to numerous incidents recently resulting in multiple arrests and several ongoing investigations.
Package Thief Arrested: A wanted package thief was arrested today at approximately 4:45 PM near Albany Avenue and Eastern Parkway after an alert community member recognized him from Shmira’s wanted alert. Shmira responded to the scene and the suspect was placed under arrest by the NYPD.
Shoplifter Arrested, Attempted To Break Into House Hours Later: A woman was arrested Sunday at approximately 5:00 PM after stealing from a supermarket near Empire Boulevard and Kingston Avenue. Shmira and the NYPD responded quickly, arresting her nearby. Hours later at approximately 1:00 AM, the same woman, after being released, trespassed onto private property near East New York Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue and repeatedly tried to force her way into an occupied home, turning the door handle multiple times. Thankfully, the door remained locked. Shmira responded immediately, containing the situation until police arrived and transported her to the hospital.
DWI Arrest: A reckless driver was arrested on Motzei Shabbos after driving the wrong way through Crown Heights while intoxicated. At approximately 11:00 PM, the vehicle was observed near Kingston Avenue and Carroll Street driving against traffic and swerving recklessly, nearly striking other cars and pedestrians. Crown Heights Shmira was notified, located the vehicle, and contacted the NYPD. The driver was subsequently apprehended and arrested.
Burglary – One Arrested, One Wanted: At approximately 3:00 AM on March 2, two suspects broke into a storage room near Lefferts and Troy Avenues, forcing open the door and lock and stealing hundreds of dollars worth of property. When one of the perpetrators brazenly returned to steal more, Shmira was alerted, spotted him, and contacted the NYPD, who arrived and arrested him. He faces charges of burglary and assault. The second suspect remains at large. Anyone with information should contact Shmira immediately.

Stolen Vehicle Arrest & Recovery: A car was stolen near St. Johns Place and Albany Avenue on February 25 at approximately 10:00 AM. Crown Heights Shmira swiftly mobilized, utilizing their drone unit to track the stolen vehicle and relay the suspect’s location to the NYPD in real time. The suspect was promptly arrested and the vehicle recovered.
Package Thief Recognized and Arrested: A perpetrator who had previously stolen a package from a victim was spotted on February 18 at approximately 1:00 PM. Crown Heights Shmira and NYPD officers responded and apprehended him near Kingston Avenue and Sterling Place.
Stolen UHaul Linked to Multi-Borough Crime Spree Recovered: On February 17 at approximately 1:00 PM, an alert Shmira member spotted a stolen UHaul truck wanted by multiple precincts in connection with several crime patterns across multiple boroughs. The truck had most recently been linked to a February 6 theft from a Crown Heights shul, in which thousands of dollars worth of property was stolen. Shmira tracked the vehicle while coordinating with NYPD officers, who intercepted the truck and arrested the suspect. The stolen property from the Crown Heights shul theft was also recovered.
Machete Threat: A suspect brandishing a machete was arrested near Kingston Avenue and Lincoln Place on February 16 at approximately 10:00 PM following a rapid response by Crown Heights Shmira and the NYPD.
Repeat Offender Arrested Multiple Times: Between February 10 and February 17, a suspect was arrested by the NYPD on at least four separate occasions after Shmira fielded repeated complaints of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and traffic obstruction, primarily near Albany Avenue and Empire Boulevard.
Violent Burglar Arrested: A suspect wanted in connection with multiple violent crimes and burglaries across Crown Heights was taken into custody on February 6 following a joint investigation by Crown Heights Shmira and the NYPD detective squad.
