The public square in Bom Retiro, São Paulo, Brazil, was filled with light, music, and a deep sense of emotion during a Chanukah celebration that brought together the Jewish community and the wider public in a meaningful gathering.
The evening featured a special performance by the São Paulo Military Police Band, which movingly performed the traditional melodies “Maoz Tzur” and “Ufaratsta,” adding a powerful sense of dignity and honor to the celebration. The program was further enriched by musical performances from Uri Epelbaum and Levy Eliezer, whose artistry brought joy and inspiration to all in attendance.
The celebration was organized by the Talmud Thora Lubavitch Synagogue, under the leadership of Rabbi Hersh Leib Begun, Rabbi Shie Pasternak, and Rabbi Ilan Ende, whose dedication and guidance were evident throughout the program. We were also honored by the special presence of Rabbi Shamai Ende, Director of the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva, whose participation elevated the significance of the evening.
A particularly moving moment was the tribute paid to the victims of the attack in Sydney, observed with great respect, unity, and reflection. This tribute served as a powerful reminder of the message of Chanukah — the triumph of light over darkness, hope over fear, and faith over adversity.
The evening stood as a beautiful expression of unity, remembrance, and spiritual strength, illuminating not only the public square but also the hearts of all who attended.
