More than forty years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe launched the Daily Rambam Study initiative, igniting a worldwide movement that has united Jewish men, women, and children across communities, backgrounds, and professions in the shared goal of learning kol haTorah kulah—laws pertaining all of the Torah.
To ensure that every Jew could participate meaningfully, the Rebbe established three parallel study tracks:
• Three chapters of Mishneh Torah daily, completed in just under one year
• One chapter daily, completed in under three years
• Sefer Hamitzvos, a more accessible track covering the fundamentals of the 613 Biblical commandments, also completed annually.
This year we celebrate a Triple Siyum, conclusion of the study cycle: the 45th completion of the three-chapter and Sefer HaMitzvos cycles, and the 15th completion of the one-chapter-a-day cycle.
While the daily structure enables consistent progress through Rambam’s vast work, and allows for the learner to learn the laws of all subjects of the Torah, mastering the depth of these laws can be challenging. The Rebbe therefore stressed the importance of studying at least one halachah in depth, infusing vitality and excitement into the daily learning routine.
To support in-depth study of Rambam, Chayenu3, which follows the three chapter a day cycle of Rambam study, presents a Daily Rambam Insight drawn from the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, from the Rambam Pardes Hamelech series published by Rabbi Meir Ellituv. The flagship Chayenu, which includes one chapter a day and Sefer Hamitzvos, features a weekly in-depth essay exploring a specific Rambam law, highlighting the chidushim of the Chabad Rebbes. These essays are original and found in Chayenu.
In honor of the Siyum Harambam, Chayenu once again has published a selection of these essays into a beautifully produced booklet, offering in-depth analysis of the first two books of the Mishneh Torah: Sefer Hamadda (The Book of Knowledge) and Sefer Ahavah (The Book of Love). The collection is complemented by an insightful introduction that provides historical context for the Rambam study initiative and explains the enduring importance of learning Rambam in depth.
Readers will discover Rambam’s vision behind his monumental work, how the Rebbe revitalized that vision through the Daily Rambam Study initiative, and the spiritual benefits and blessings associated with consistent Rambam learning. The booklet also traces the historical precedent for Rambam study throughout the generations and explains why in-depth learning remains essential today.
