Chabad of Sydney, Australia brought the light of Chanukah to their local Parliament at a ceremony led by Rabbi Pinchas Feldman.
Performing the Maoz Tzur prayer was child singing sensation and Sydney resident Levi Niasoff.
The traditional lighting of the Menorah took place in the NSW State Parliament in Sydney with guests including Premier Mike Baird and Opposition Leader Luke Foley.
All 8 candles were lit, as Levi Niasoff, coming off the release of his debut album, Mipi Olelim, led the crowd in Maoz Tzur and Im Eshkochech.
The program started with a formal welcome of guests by Gabrielle Upton MP, Attorney General, which was followed by an invocation prayer by Rabbi Eli Cohen.
Rabbi Eli Cohen greeted all the guests and said, “We are gathered today, to celebrate the upcoming festival of Chanukah, commemorating the victory of a small group of devoutly religious Jews against their Greek-Syrian oppressors 21 centuries ago.”
John Ajaka, Minister for Ageing, Disability Services, and for Multiculturalism welcomed all the guests and extended his best wishes to the Australian Jewish community for Chanukah.
Mike Baird, Premier of NSW also spoke on the occasion, and extended his wishes to the community.
