A well-coordinated Chabad operation had Israelis around the Holy Land performing Mitzvos in the merit of fallen soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces and victims of Arab terror.
The campaign commenced on Wednesday morning as the country was commemorating the official remembrance day called “Yom HaZikaron LeHalalei Ma’arakhot Yisrael ul’Nifge’ei Pe’ulot HaEivah.”
Lubavitchers who serve in the IDF were joined by other Chassidim and Yeshiva bochurim in placing Mitzvah Stands in cities across Israel – from the Negev in the south to the north.
Planned in cooperation with local Chabad Shluchim, these stands distributed yartzeit candles for people to light in memory of their loved ones who were killed in wars and terror attacks.
The stands also had Tefillim for people to put on, Tzedakah boxes for charity to be dedicated and bottles of water to hydrate in the heat.
The remarkable effort was coordinated by Rabbi Eliyahu Gutman, who is active among IDF soldiers throughout the year. He thanked the Meromim organization and R’ Yossi Krichevsky for their partnership and support. It was dedicated in merit of R’ Yitzhak ben Leah.
According to organizers, thousands of people visited the various Mitzvah Stands over memorial day. Elected officials and IDF officers were seen praising Chabad’s work in connecting people, bringing comfort and unity.
