Chabad of Belem, Brazil Celebrates 40 Years

Forty years ago, a young couple arrived in the North of Brazil to serve the Jewish community.

Rabbi Disraeli Zagury had a vision of giving back to the Moroccan descendant community that he had grown up in as a child. Together with his wife, Sara Zagury, they opened a school, mikvah, more classes, and the list keeps growing every year, as Beit Chabad Belem continues to flourish.

This week they celebrated that monumental anniversary with a gala dinner and more than 250 guests- which is 30% of the entire Jewish population in the state.

It was an enchanting event where an orchestra played traditional Moroccan music and donors and friends were honored for their contributions throughout the years.
