After a groundbreaking first year, Chabad Girls High School (CGHS) in Baltimore is set to expand its educational offering to include both 9th and 10th grades for the upcoming school year. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to providing quality Jewish education in the heart of Baltimore’s frum community.
A Year of Achievements
CGHS opened its doors last year with a 9th-grade class, quickly establishing itself as a unique institution that blends rigorous academic standards with a deep commitment to Chassidishe values. The success of the first year has been a testament to the school’s innovative approach to education and community involvement.
Expanding Horizons
The decision to include 10th grade in the next academic year stems from the positive feedback and growing demand from the local community and the Chabad community at large.
The High School has focused on five core areas.
Small Class Sizes:
Ensuring personalized attention, classes are limited to no more than 10 students, fostering a nurturing and focused learning environment.
Tailored Educational Approach:
Each student is given the attention required to thrive academically and personally, with a curriculum designed to meet individual learning needs.
Distinguished Educators: Drawing from Baltimore’s rich pool of experienced educators in the Lubavitch and frum community, CGHS offers top-tier education.
Community Engagement:
The school leverages community resources to enrich the educational experience, with activities like Farbrengens, Shabbatons, guest speakers, electives, and after-hours activities.
Chabad/Shlichus Activities:
Proximity to over 20 Chabad houses facilitates regular opportunities for Shlichus and Mivtzoim, embedding a strong sense of mission and community service in the students.
School Director Mrs. Sarah Schectman shared: “As we embark on this exciting expansion to include 10th grade, our commitment at CGHS remains steadfast in providing an education that nurtures the whole student. Our unique approach combines rigorous academic standards with a deep immersion in Chassidishe values. We’re dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, spiritually, and personally. The growth and positive feedback from our community in our first year have been incredibly affirming, and we look forward to continuing this journey with our expanded student body.”
A Mission That Matters
CGHS is founded on the principle of educating for life. “We aim to prepare our students not just academically, but as confident, informed young women grounded in Torah, Yiras Shomayim, Chassidus, and a connection to the Rebbe,” says Rabbi Nochum Katsenelenbogen, a member of the school’s leadership and Shliach in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Academic Excellence at CGHS
In addition to the expansion news, it’s worth highlighting the comprehensive academic program at CGHS. The curriculum balances Judaic and secular studies, fostering both spiritual growth and academic excellence. Judaic studies at CGHS cover essential subjects like Chumash, Navi, Halachah, Sicha, Tanya, Biur Tefillah, and Moshiach u’Geula, emphasizing skill-building and independent study. The secular curriculum, adhering to Maryland State standards, includes Mathematics, English, Science, and a range of electives. Complementing this, CGHS offers a dynamic extra-curricular program that enhances students’ Chassidishe development through activities such as Shabbatons and guest speakers.
Community Voices
Mrs. Estie Ciment, a shlucha In Little Rock, Arkansas has a daughter in the school and shares. “A school where teachers not only teach with passion but also deeply care for their students—that’s what we’ve found at CGHS. My daughter, Miriam, has thoroughly enjoyed her time at the school, which has greatly eased the challenges of living away from home. The way CGHS brings Chassidishe Yomim Tovim and Yomei D’Pagra to life, not just through educators but also through student involvement, is remarkable. The warm, inviting environment, clean facilities, and exciting extracurricular activities make the school a place where students eagerly participate. The well-developed curriculum and engaging atmosphere curated by the school administration are truly special. This has contributed to a very successful and smooth transition for Miriam in her high school journey.”
Looking Forward
As CGHS prepares to welcome its new 9th and 10th-grade students, the excitement within the community is palpable. The school continues to be a beacon of Chassidic education, combining academic excellence with spiritual growth.
