Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Gutnick, the Rebbe’s Shliach on matters of Shleimus HaAretz (the integrity of the Land of Israel), has launched a new campaign across Israeli media, warning against renewed discussions of granting autonomy in Gaza.
Ever since the declared conclusion of the war with the Hamas terror regime, there have been discussions about whether Gaza will be autonomous, under Israeli security control, under Palestinian Authority (PA) control, or under an international or transitional body.
In 2005, the Israeli government under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon evacuated Jewish settlers and military outposts from the Gaza Strip, which gave way to Hamas to take control. Many say this paved the way for the October 7, 2023 attack and subsequent war.
A proposal backed by the U.S. for the establishment of a Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA) has been floated — possibly under the leadership of Britain’s Tony Blair — to administer Gaza for a transitional period. One of the first goals is to prevent Gaza from again being a launching pad for terror attacks.
Rabbi Gutnick, who is also a businessman in Australia, believes that this and similar plans would be a grave mistake. “This would inevitably become a Palestinian state,” Rabbi Gutnick cautioned. “It’s a grave security danger — a tragedy for generations.”
Under the slogan “Don’t Gamble With Lives!”, the campaign urges Israeli leaders to resist what Rabbi Gutnick describes as “a repetition of past mistakes — rebuilding the capital of terror and once again relying on the ‘credibility’ of the enemy, at the cost of soldiers’ lives.”
Calling for firm national responsibility and adherence to the Rebbe’s guidance, Rabbi Gutnick emphasized: “The Rebbe was unequivocal — not to give up even an inch of the Land of Israel, for this is a matter of pikuach nefesh, of saving lives.”
He concluded with a direct appeal to policymakers: “No to dangerous deals, no to surrendering sovereignty, and no to autonomy in Gaza.”

For over two years the Israeli government has been doing things the Rebbe warned about many times that they pose a grave danger (examples: insisting that post war no Jews will be allowed to settle in any part of Gaza, dragging out the war instead of a quick and decisive victory, sending in foot soldiers to areas that could be bombed by air, etc.), and unfortunately, the voice of the Rebbe’s opinion was not heard enough, and even amongst Chassidim of the Rebbe it seems that some don’t realize how dangerous these approaches are.
