Camp Chayolei SGP 7th grade program last summer had to turn away many boys due to the lack of space. They now have plans for a new air-conditioned Zal to seat up to 200 bochurim in their 7th grade SGP program.
“Our SGP program began in 1998 when the administration felt that it was time to revolutionize how 7th graders were treated in camp by separating the 7th-grade campers from the younger grades, giving them their own shul and dining room areas and to increase their hours of learning to that of 8th graders,” the camp administration told COLlive.
In addition, they explained that by giving them their own shul, it gives the boys the opportunity to be trained to daven more as they would as older Bochurim.
“All this is done with the intention of helping them be prepared for the approaching year at yeshivah where they will be training for Mesivtah,” the administration said.
This approach was received warmly by the campers, who enjoyed being treated like older Bochurim in many ways.
“It goes without saying that along with upgrading their Ruchnius, we needed to upgrade their Gashmiyus as well,” the camp said. “To this end, they have bunks with smaller air-conditioned rooms, so it feels more like at home, plus they have many other treats throughout the summer as well as larger-scale trips and more of them.”
“We are looking forward to another great summer together without having to turn anyone down due to lack of space,” they said.
