The Merkos Chinuch Office invites Historia teachers of grades 6–12 to a focused professional development session: “Building Thinkers, Not Just Test-Takers: Teaching General and Jewish History with Skill.”
The Historia session, scheduled for March 11 (22 Adar) at 8:30 PM, will provide practical strategies to elevate how history is taught in the classroom, moving beyond memorization and toward deeper understanding.
The session will be led by Mrs. Ella Lerman, curriculum director, motivational speaker, and educator with over 40 years of experience. Drawing on decades in the classroom, Mrs. Lerman will guide teachers in helping students:
Organize information clearly
Take effective notes
Develop strong study habits
Retain and apply what they learn
Participants will gain practical tools to help students think critically about history while developing a stronger appreciation for Jewish history.

i do not understand why any jewish school has any tests ever. what is the purpose? or competitions. we are not in a competition. and we shouldn’t be.
the rebbe writes for students to take tests
and i also do not understand grades. why do jewish schools use grades (if they do) like A B C D F….
all school should be for the sake of learning Torah lishmah.
Points for effort, but the contradiction is obvious. The title suggests a course or program designed to help students think critically yet all of the topics listed are geared towards test taking!
you know that the point of learning is also to be able to recall information.
all the skills offered are geared to that
I learned so much from her she’s so interesting and knowledgeable
חזקי ואמצי 💪🏻
My son’s 5th grade Rebbi (ULY, Crown St) told us at open school night, “Tests will be surprise quizzes. They are only for me to know if the student internalized the material or I have to teach it to him differently. There’s no point in a test if the parent has to teach it to the child the night before.”
Thank you Rabbi Levy!! Your students learned skills and subject matter!!!
