1800 people gathered for a grand Flatbush community celebration on Lag B’Omer all along Avenue N outside Mayan Yisroel Shul in Brooklyn.
Great weather greeted participants, as clowns and cartoon characters entertained the crowd and BMX stunt show riders mesmerized everyone with their bicycle acrobats.
For weeks in advance the marching band practiced, resulting in a most professional synchronized band, led by the dynamic Meir Thaler from Los Angeles, who was not seen for a moment without an open Sefer when he wasn’t training the band.
Rabbi Yoseph Vigler, Rav of Mayan Yisroel, explained to the kids how powerful their Torah, Tefillah and Tzedaka is, especially in such unity, and that it impacts all of Am Yisroel and keeps us safe, especially in Eretz hakodesh.
Thanks to the 63rd precinct, crowd control was remarkable. Everyone marched over to light the bonfire in honor of the Yahrtzeit of Rabi Shimon bar Yochai, entertained by the fire juggler and joyous dancing with singers Mendy Worch, Dovid Stein and Shea Rubenstein.
Avrumi Tzippel of Salt Lake City, Utah, was an exceptional MC and enthralled the audience with his storytelling capabilities. Every child who brought a friend received an LCD photo key chain as a gift, and the grand raffle winners walked away with a Shas, Seforim, bicycles and more.
Yasher koach to all the sponsors, to attendees and the tireless Dovid Stein for putting everything together assisted by incredible community volunteers who took care of everything from a to z.
Additionally, Mayan Yisroel held a Kumzits in a local backyard with 250 bochurim and yungeleit, which went on until 2:30 am on Motzei Shabbos, Lag B’Omer. Rabbi Vigler explained all about the depth and significance of the day.
Eric would be especially proud if you taught the kids to drum on their shoes, though I’m sure he is shepping a lot of nachas regardless. A drummer and a shoemaker pair well together!!!! Keep up the good work :< D
