R’ Ben-Ami Segall , a resident of Crown Heights for 25 years and recently of Florida, passed away on Shabbos, 6 Menachem Av 5777.
He was 84.
Originally from Curitiba, Brazil. he pioneered the start of the Jewish community in Curitiba serving as the right-hand man of the Shliach, Rabbi Fitche Dubrawsky. “He was always ready with his yellow car to help out in our activities,” Dubrawsky said.
When Segall first became frum in the 70s, there was no chalav yisroel in Curitiba, so he would travel to a farm and watch the milking process. He would then bring home the milk and boil it so that his children would have milk to drink.
He would make sure to enroll his children in Tzivos Hashem youth group and Gan Israel camp so they could be as involved in yiddishkeit as possible.
Even before the Shliach arrived, Segall educated his children as best as he could in the ways of Hashem. He was very gifted with his hands, and even served as a handyman in the home of the Rebbe in Crown Heights.
In his later years, he moved to Florida and was an active member of the Chabad community in Satellite Beach. People there described as a “very eidel who was always ready to help another and has given all he can to his family.”
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Baila Segall, their children R’ Yehuda Segall – Crown Heights; R’ Ariel Segall – Florida, Mrs. Etel Brand – São Paulo, Brazil and R’ Yehoshua Segall – Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren.
