What has become of the frum community that looks to the OUTSIDE for affirmation in what they are doing. I personally know dozens of girls who BRHS-MTL made them who they are, enriched educated empowered JEWISH women. They contribute every day to the communiities where they live, many of them did not score about 70’s on their schoolwork!

We love Beth Rivkah!!!
November 19, 2008 2:35 pm

Should we care at all about the Fraser Institute's rating?
November 19, 2008 10:59 am

Should we care at all about the Fraser Institute’s rating? Do they really have any credibility? Below please find a quote from chabad.org news, dated May 6 2008: “Canada’s Fraser Institute named Beth Rivkah Academy of Montreal, a Jewish day school operated by Chabad-Lubavitch, as one of the top performing secondary schools in Quebec. The school clinched the first runner-up prize in the academic achievement in excess of expectations division of the Fraser Institute’s first-ever Garfield Weston Awards. The educational research firm surveyed the school performance data of 466 secondary schools across the province over the last five years.” See… Read more »

Why post this article?
November 18, 2008 12:44 am

What’s the point of posting this article? From the article and comments you can see it’s not such a bad school. Most people just read the headlines and go on, so you are giving a negative view of BR.
There are enough websites out there looking for this kind of stuff. A lubavitcher site, should not bash lubavitcher mosdos! Take it off!

Former Student's opinion
November 17, 2008 1:55 pm

With all that Beis Rivkah montreal has given me and all that it contributed to my Chassidishe education, i can not deny the fact that BRM is a wonderful outstanding school. Yes!! It could very well be that on the Fraser award, BR is ranked highest and just a few years later ranked for its extreme decline. However, the achievement in secular subjects doesn’t change the essence of our school, this doesn’t form a change in the students. Whether the school decides to take action and increase their interest in this matter, it is totally dependent on them. Regardless, I… Read more »

I agree the grades dont count. Middos are much more important.

To #13
November 16, 2008 2:20 pm

I agree totally with 13, what’s happening now in school is outrageous, things like that would never have happened in my days when madame Gabay was there upstairs, she always made sure things were rolling and we were all doing what we were supposed to do……HELP!!! We need to take care of this problem!!!!!!!!!ASAP

OPEN YOUR EYES!!!
November 16, 2008 10:39 am

Did anyone think for a second and think how this low rating came about??? Since our dear Mrs Gabay is not there anymore things have gone downhill and that’s just what we see, we don’t know what else is going on….time will tell
B.R. was nominated for the fraser award while she did the job and now the same fraser is ranking them lowest…where has Mrs Gabay’s 20 yrs of experience gone?
LET’S OPEN OUR EYES!!!

Thank you for posting this article

shame on COL
November 14, 2008 1:07 pm

I am very disgusted that COL would feature this article which was printed in a very anti-chabad newspaper. If you read the facts it remains that the reason for the low marks is the opendoor policy of the school as opposed to the other schools in town who are extremely selective. BRM is the only school who accepts ALL jewish girls… and it is a real shame that they are getting such a bad rap for doing the right thing and sacrificing the good marks for those who are learning disabled… shame on COL for passing on negative energy to… Read more »

br montreal
November 13, 2008 8:51 pm

Maybe according to the government of quebec they arent above average in the secular dept. but that is because they are stressing Limudei Koidesh and Middos which is of utmost importance in these times as our Rebbe has stressed.
All the Montreal girls that have gone to Beis RIvkah MTL in the past are extremely nice and ALSO bright capable girls.

A BRM parent
November 13, 2008 7:49 pm

My daughter attends Beth Rivkah in Montreal. She is a below average student. Fortunately she receives a tremendous amount of help in the Resource Room of Beth Rivkah. We are very grateful for that. She is a proud member of her class and has a good self esteem. The overall marks of the students are very good, eventhough the “average” may be lowered by some students. Reality is that approximately 15% of students throughout the world have learning difficulties. Many schools do not accept these students. Some accept them but don’t provide them with specialized help which they need. A… Read more »

November 13, 2008 6:39 pm

Personally I think some parents put too much emphsis on grades, when middos are much more important.
That said, I am still glad my children dont attend this school, it would worry me that the grades are so below what they should be.

Marks are not everything
November 13, 2008 6:07 pm

If the kids are happy, that’s the main thing!
