Avinoam Schneersohn, a descendant of the Alter Rebbe, passed away on Friday, 13 Teves, 5779.
He was 87.
Avinoam is an 8th generation descendant of the Baal Hatanya.
Originally from Montreal, he was the son of Chazzan Shneur Zalman Schneersohn.
He once had an interesting meeting with the Rebbe discussing distant relatives in the Schneersohn family.
In his later years, he lived in California. While there, he married his current wife Rivkah, a native of Colorado.
For the last 8 years, they have been living Lakewood, NJ, while Avinoam has been receiving urgent care for kidney failure among other issues. They have become very close with the Shluchim in Lakewood.
The levaya will take place on Sunday in Lakewood Beis Hachaim at 12:30 pm, 7th Street Cemetery.

his father R’ Zalman lived in Montreal where Avinoam was born. Zalman later on moved to LA and lived there until his death in 1968.
R’ Zalman was the son of R’ Yechiel born in Safed to his father R’ Moshe Sholom. He came to the States in 1902 and lived in Dayton, Ohio where he was a Hebrew Teacher.
Another brother of R’ Yechiel was R’ Benzion who was a Rabbi in Detroit and whose kever was recently posted on Kevarim.com.
