Summer is a great time for teachers and students to relax and rejuvenate. It’s also a crucial time for schools to examine what they could be adding to their curricula to enhance their students’ learning and general school experience.
Bnos Chomesh is pleased to announce 3 new programs that will begin IY”H this fall. The programs represent upgrades in academics, social-emotional learning and ruchniyus.
Starting this year, Bnos Chomesh will begin offering AP college level courses for 11th and 12th graders.
In conjunction with Sarah Schenirer, students can complete Advanced Placement courses and receive college credits that can be transferred to any institution of higher learning upon graduation. With so many young women looking for shortcuts to get degrees, this is a practical way of facilitating their path.
On the emotional growth front, Bnos Chomesh is partnering with JLI’s Wellness Institute to offer students a Social-Emotional learning program, entitled “Cultivating Resilience”.
This evidence-based program offers students the opportunity to study curriculum and have important discussions on mental health and emotional wellbeing.
According to Bnos Chomesh principal, Mrs. Dena Gorkin, “building resiliency is one of the most important things we can do for teens these days. With all of the external stresses that children are faced with today, offering emotional regulation skills is a gift we can give our students that will carry them healthfully into adult life.”
On the Ruchniyus front, Bnos Chomesh is proud to offer a new JLI course this year for 11th and 12th graders, entitled “How Success Thinks,” taught by renowned JLI instructor Rabbi Naftali Silberberg. Rabbi Silberberg’s approach is extremely down to earth and stresses “learning needs the three Rs: it needs to be Real, it needs to be Relevant, and it needs to be taught with a genuine Respect for the students and their ideas and personalities. That’s what I try to bring to my class,” says Rabbi Silberberg.
For 9th and 10th graders a new Bayis Yehudi curriculum has been added and is being taught by Mrs. Mushka Morozow. “It is crucial for us to provide even our younger students with a positive Chassidishe outlook on marriage and relationships,” states Mrs. Morozow. “If a girl wants to find out anything about the world she can just Google it. It’s available in books, magazines, anywhere she might look. And the books on the Torah view of marriage and Taharas Hamishpacha are hidden away because the subject matter is sensitive. The beauty, richness and depth of the Torah perspective are hidden away. The Rebbe spoke about thisn Yud Bais Tammuz 5728, stressing the point of speaking to young students about these topics, since they are surely exposed to the secular view, and it is our responsibility to counter this information with the Torah viewpoint.”

So proud of Crown Heights for offering things that will help girls so directly.
It’s very interesting to see how they combine all the different types of learning into their program. I wish more schools would do this I think a lot of kids would benefit
I can’t get over this. So amazing. I’m so impressed. Great job BCA. Spread this influence!!!
Wish more schools parterned to with Sara Schenire to offer AP or dual credits.
It would make our 12th grade more serious and not waste of time
Lucky girls
I love the fact that they are basing their Bayis Yehudi class on the Rebbe’s hora’ah.Of course the Rebbe was right and he saw the problems coming years before things got so bad with all the kids having smart phones and internet.
your so lucky to have him as a teacher in bnos chomesh I hope you guys appreciate him he is amazing
How come not all schools offer ap courses if it’s possible? Never even knew it’s a thing. Thanks Bnos Chomesh for leading the way.
Mrs. Gorkin devotes her life to helping OUR girls. We are lucky to have her and BCA in our community and we should support them!
