NYPD Officer Lawrence DePrimo became a national sensation after being photographed giving a pair of boots to a homeless man.
Not likely to get global coverage, yet no less newsworthy, is the donation Crown Heights merchant Shaya Gordon is making this winter.
Gordon is donating hundreds of coats for Jewish children in the neighborhood that will be given through the local schools via a confidential hotline.
He said that during the shiva for his late father, Schabse Gordon OBM a story was told of him approaching a young father and saying, “I see your son doesn’t have a coat. Go buy one,” as he handed him money.
Shaya Gordon told COLlive.com that after noticing quite a few children walking to school without proper winter coats, he teamed up with two friends and purchased hundreds of coats in various sizes and styles.
If you or someone you know needs a coat for their child please call 718-408-1484 and leave a message with the size and gender and a call back number (no name please).
Someone will contact you with a convenient pick up location of your choice (your child’s school, a local store, etc.). Supplies are limited.
beautiful…….it’s a lesson to all of us, and sometimes helping can come in a form of a small gesture too…..let’s go everyone!!!!
So who are the “two friends” that Shaya is covering for?
