Over 1,500 chayolim were in for a huge surprise when the Chidon finalists were announced in schools around the world.
Over 2,000 students took the third—and final—qualifying test for the Chidon 5778. The score earned, averaged with the previous two, determined which students would join the Chidon Shabbaton and which contestants will represent their school on stage in the grand Chidon game show!
This year the students were in for a big surprise when Chidon Headquarters changed the game. Previously only one student per grade was able to be a school representative. This year, every grade can have two students represent their school, thus giving many new chayolim the opportunity to shine!
The reactions from the schools were heartfelt. Coordinators took to whatsapp groups to express their joy.
“Yay! Amazing! You just made a lot of kids very very happy!” “Headquarters you have been unbelievable every step of the way! Thank you for all the time and consideration that you put into making decisions for the benefit of the students!!!”
Homes and schools around the world have become transformed because of this competition, organizers said. “It’s incredible how the annual Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years,” says Chidon Coordinator Rabbi Sholom Ber Baumgarten.
Just 4 years ago, 45 chayolim were signed up, increasing to 634 two years later, 1,045 last year and now this year—the biggest yet—with 1,674 students eligible.
