Aliya and Yeshiva Bais Menachem , Wilkes Barre, PA have shared a close bond since their inceptions.
12 years ago, when Rabbi Uri Pearlman was still a bochur and decided to open a special yeshiva for Chabad youth in need to extra care, one of the first friends he called was Rabbi Moishe Feiglin.
The two were friends from their Yeshiva days in YG in Melbourne and together, with help from some others, they built the foundations of what is today the growing Yeshiva Bais Menachem in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Several years later when all the founding staff of Bais Menachem were married and Feiglin was learning in Kollel in Crown Heights, Pearlman began encouraging his friend to open a similar program in Crown Heights.
This played a big factor in the creation of what is today known as the Aliya Institute.
This week, for the first time, Aliya made its pilgrimage to its mother moisad in Wilkes Barre.
It proved to be the perfect Shabbaton for all. Uri enjoyed seeing a moisad he helped inspire prosper. Moishe saw the tremendous growth of Bais Menachem since he was there 12 years earlier.
The Aliya members loved the beautiful change of scenery that Wilkes-Barre provides for so many. Wilkes Barrians enjoyed the Aliya members joining them on what would otherwise have been a quiet summer Shabbos
Rabbi Uri and Rabbi Pinny Levitin both enjoyed quality conversations with the Aliya.
In previous summer Shabbatons, Aliya members have enjoyed the hospitality of Chabad of East Hamptons, Chabad of University of Albany, Chabad of University of Philadelphia, Israel as part of Aliya Birthright and much much more.
At the conclusion of Shabbos several Aliya members decided they want to stay in Wilkes Barre for the year and are on the waiting-list.
All in all it was a powerfully positive Shabbaton which brought together the great energy two great Mosdos and had a powerful impact on all.
