Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway reopened early Thursday morning, after being shut when a car-ramming attack forced the evacuation of the historic shul during the Yud Shvat Farbrengens.
The building reopened at approximately 5:45 a.m., allowing bochurim and visitors to return for Shacharis and regular activities. Bochurim who had waited all night for the Shul to reopen, broke out in joyous dancing as they reentered the Shul.
The reopening followed a dramatic incident Wednesday night, when a man repeatedly rammed a vehicle into an entrance of the shul. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and no injuries were reported. Authorities later said the incident is being investigated by the NYPD as a hate crime.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect had been inside 770 earlier in the day and had interacted with congregants. Witnesses also said he had been seen at other Chabad centers in recent months seeking assistance and guidance.
Police have not released information about potential charges. However, a senior law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, identified the suspect as Dan Sohail, 36, of Carteret, New Jersey.
Community leaders said the decision to reopen quickly reflected both confidence in the security response and a determination to continue daily Jewish life despite the incident. Additional security measures were visible Thursday morning, and police continued to assess the area.
The investigation remains ongoing.

The guy seemed nuts to me. But… if police are in that trailer by the museum, what took them so long to respond ? And those two cops who did show up just strolled up without a care in the world.
@Commissioner Tisch. Maybe check out which cops are looking out for Jews and perhaps assign ones who actually care about us to aces like 770.
Its the beis hamikdash…
Where you can sense the kedusha
Why is there a female fixing the doors?! 770 is really holy and should be treated as such…
The Rebbe spoke HIGHLY of women at his FULL MEN farbrangens, women were also able to attend them. Also, 770 the Rebbes holy shul, got attacked viciously and this is what you chose to comment about? I really hope you’re just trying to rage bait with this comment tbh because if you genuinely commented this then you really need the Rebbe in your life. Go and read a maamar instead of posting stupid comments.
Why were the metal barriers which prevent cars from entering the drive way down. If they were up as they should be this incident wouldn’t have happen. Also, metal or cement permanent barriers need to be setup by the entrances of 770 so there isn’t any more car ramming incidents again. Unfortunately the people who are in charge will continue to do nothing again. DZ
on the day where we accept the Rebbe’s visits 100s of people WATCH a goy for over 90 seconds attempt to damage the Rebbe’s shul…
Basi legani teaches the urgent need for action… no Rabbi or Rav is asking the olam…why did you watch this happen…
It was from shemayim this happened to teach us that we need to open the doors more. We need much more effort in kiruv as most yidden are assimilating.
