A case of a baby adopted by one of the most respected families in the Orthodox Jewish world has become the subject of a profound debate among many prominent Rabbis and Beis Dins.
The argument is that the adoption was done fraudulently and against Halacha and civil law, and with other major flaws, some allegedly immoral.
Prominent Rabbis involved in the case believe that the adoptive parents obtained the child illegitimately, according to Halacha.
The adoptive parents have been summoned to a Din Torah in several Beis Dins, but failed to appear.
As a result, a Heter was given for the matter to be taken up in secular court.
According to the opinion of senior jurists and experts in the field, there is concern that offenses against international laws relating to adoption have been committed, and it is possible that international police agencies may become involved in the investigation.
Israel-based Attorney Mordechai Tzivin, who has worldwide connections and who deals with international affairs – among them aiding in the appointment of a female Professor from Ukraine to serve as Judge in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg- is dealing with this case, and told our reporter: “This is a volatile issue. I hope the affair will not explode. If details are revealed, international law-enforcement may become involved.”
Due to the gravity of the matter which relates to a minor, and criminal acts which were done by those holding the child – both in Israel and other countries – a gag order was imposed by the court about further details.

t’s become known lately that all the big poskim of our time unanimously hold that adoption has no place in hallacha. A child belongs forever to its mother and that can’t be changed – even by the mother herself. One cruelly cuts contact between mother and child is putting the whole frum community in danger. Just imagine what the press will make out of this.
We’re forever suffering from blue blooded “respected families” who think they’re on top of the system and no one can do justice with them. Chutzpah!!

An illegal adoption is no different than human trafficking and /or kidnapping. When will “prominent” Jews learn that we must keep the Laws of the Land??? You cannot “snatch” a baby, you cannot “buy” a baby, PERIOD!! If you do – it isn’t “your” baby. Respect the law and you won’t get into trouble. Now, let’s start a pidyon shevuim fund for these parents…
IT is important for people to know that you have to follow the law. Even if you are a choshuveh Yid who sits in mizrach, you still have to follow the law and if you don’t your crimes will catch up with you. Desperation for a child led these people to do something illegal; they shouldn’t have. Let it be a lesson to us all–follow the law of the land as our Torah teaches and our Rebbe emphasized.
