A Visitor to Coney Island

Coney Island Shliach Rabbi Pinny Marozov delighted the Coney Island Russian Jewish community with a very special guest.

This past Friday morning, hundreds of people gathered at the Coney Island Jewish Community Center to hear inspiring words from the Chief Rabbi of Russia Rabbi Berl Lazar.

Rabbi Lazar addressed the crowd in Russian, told many amazing stories about Yidden and Yiddishkeit in Russia. He then answered many questions from the crowd.

Amongst the gathered were Rabbi Chaim Brikman, Shliach in Sea Gate, Rabbi Moshe Wiener, director of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, and dignitaries. Local reporters, as well as reporters from the Russian Television and newspapers, took great interest in the event.

It was a big Kiddush Lubavitch and very uplifting for the Russian Jews to hear first hand from Rabbi Lazar of the many wonderful projects and activities going on in Russia today. They were very impressed how Yiddishkeit is flourishing tremendously under the auspices of Chabad. Many of them vividly remember the time when practicing Judaism was prohibited.

Rabbi Lazar was amazed with the development of Chabad in Coney Island.

At the end of the event Rabbi Lazar was presented with a certificate of honor in appreciation for his efforts on behalf of Russian Jewry.
