A group of college students gathered at Chabad of Midtown with Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky and Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky to be inspired about the upcoming High Holidays. This was the second event at that location where college students gathered to discuss and learn about the Jewish holidays.
Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky spoke about the significance of Rosh Hashana- the day mankind was created and the day we coronate G-d as out King. Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky blew the shofar and discussed the reasons and the meaning of blowing the shofar. A round-table Q and A followed, where the students asked anything on their minds, and the Rabbis responded. The students enjoyed refreshments and drinks as they conversed and learned. At the conclusion of the event, the attendees received a jar of honey and honey cake from the Rabbis. In addition, a honey dish from Israel was raffled off.
The parents of the many of the students who attended the event were former students of Rabbi Mordechai and Shterney Kanelsky when they arrived from Russia and attended Rogosin High School in Jersey City. It was both emotional and gratifying for the Kanelsky’s to work with the third generation- the first of which they introduced to Yiddishkeit and performed chuppahs for many of them, the second of which they taught in Yeshiva, and now they are teaching the next generation of proud Jews who continue the legacy of their ancestors.
The participants left the event inspired, uplifted and ready for the upcoming High Holidays.
