‘YoShaba Shaba’ Attracts Crowd

Have you ever celebrated Shabbat in the park?

In Downtown Brooklyn, Kiddie Korner Preschool, aproject of Chabad of Brooklyn Heights, ran their Weekly shabbat welcoming program called Yoshaba Shaba, in the local Pierrepont park playground.

Many local Moms and Nannies were attracted to the festive park filled with Kiddie Korner balloons and Shabbat songs. As people gathered around children came closer to the scene and danced along with Kyle Tigges, our Kiddie Korner YoShaba musical talent.

Shakers and drums were brought out for the kids to enjoy and everyone was cheering ….Shabbat Shalom…Hay….Shabbat Shalom…Hay…Shabbat…Shabbat…Shabbat…Shalom!

After the musical session, Sheli Man-Steinberg, Kiddie Korner’s infant/toddler educational director, read the children who kept coming in to join the fun a few shabbat books, “The Shabbath Squabble” and “Way Too Much Challah Dough.” Everyone had a great time and no one wanted to leave. At the end of the program everyone received a Shabbat bag with Challah and prizes.

YoShaba Shaba is a wonderful program that has been running in the Chabad of Brooklyn Heights for over four years. The program was initiated by Kiddie Korner founders Shternie and Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin. Yoshaba Shaba is held every Thursday in 117 Remsen Street at 10am and 12pm and the classes are always full. The children make their own Challah when the program is indoors and Rabbi Raskin visits the children to do Tzedaka.

“Seeing the children in the park celebrate shabbat and bringing it into the community with so much love and joy is very meaningful to me and makes me feel very proud of what this program has sparked in the community throughout the years,” says Shternie Raskin.
