The price of kaparos chicken on erev Yom Kippur, generally the costliest in most Jewish communities, will be lowered this year in Crown Heights.
The all time low $10 price tag was subsidized by local landlord Rabbi Dovid Fisher, with matching funds from diamond magnate Morris Gad.
“This is an unprecedented special price and an opportunity for everyone to save money and to be able to perform kaporos for all members of their family,” said Rabbi Shea Hecht, chairman of the NCFJE organization.
NCFJE will be providing kapores, as it has done for dozens of years in front of its headquarters at 824 Eastern Parkway, on Thursday, 8th Tishrei, 5774 (Sept. 12) starting 5:00pm in the afternoon, with shechita beginning at 10:00pm.
For the convenience of Crown Heights residence the NCFJE will also be having Kapores at Bais Rivkah Parking lot (Montgomery Street) on Thursday, 8th Tishrei, 5774 from 9:30pm until 2:00am with Shechita.
“This is truly a great z’chus for these benefactors. In z’chus of this tzedakah we pray that the prayers and supplications of all the members of our community will join together before Yom Kippur and will bring the merit to the donors for a good and G’mar Chasima Tovah,” Rabbi Hecht added.
there is much ado about the chickens being treated inhumanely…i have heard of places where the chickens are dead from dehydration..there is NO excuse for that, but anyone who EATS chicken, meat or fish, has to know that they don’t arrive at house of glatt in those little trays. We are allowed to shecht for food….so don’t feel bad for the chickens…they ARE being elevated, just feel bad for them and for their human owners when they don’t care about tzaar baaeli chayim… a gmar tov to everyone and hopefully before next year, there will be no need for kaporos… Read more »
in London its £12.50!!
your comment is so weird! Holocaust???
These chickens were being elevated. Some poor Jew will eat them, maybe even for the seuda hamafsekes which is a mitzvah. And you call it a holocaust? Know that Hitl.. Yemach Shmo was a major animal rights activist!
Care about your brothers, and be happy they will have chicken to eat.
its like a chicken holocaust every year
What time is Kaparos on Eastern parkway finishing?
Unless your talking about sardines fish cost allot more then a chicken
they’re talking about the night before yom kippur, not the day time kapores
and yes, ncfje of course uses the chickens as well.
When I was in CH 5 or 6 years ago, it was $2
Thank you for all the wonderful work you do for the community and Jews worldwide throughout the year and throughout the years. Your dedication to all those in need is really exceptional.
NCFJE uses the chickens for food for the yeshiva and the camp all year long. Its your preference but both places are great.
i spy u green shirt!!!
I believe that Eshel is also $10
no need for machlokes, everyone go where it is good for you, gmar chasima tova
I will still be going to Eshel as i believe that the $10.00 or so per chicken goes a long way towards helping Eshel out with the orchim and they get to use the chickens for them as well.
If i wanted to save money then i wouldn’t give tzedokah, but this way i am doing a big mitzvah by helping out a great organization with both money and the use of the chicken for meals over tishrei.
Wish we had that in Miami Beach $23 a chicken feeling back for all the big families.
