Yeshivas Toras Emes, the first Chassidic Yeshiva that was established in Israel dating back to 5672, will be marking its 100 anniversary this week.
A gala dinner to be held Thursday, August 23 at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel in Jerusalem will salute its founding in Chevron by the Rebbe Rashab, Rabbi Sholom Dovber Schneersohn, OBM.
Located today on Chana Street in Jerusalem, tens of thousands of students from all over the world have come through its doors over the years.
Leading the festivities will be the long-time director Rabbi Shea Uzevitz, who was appointed by the Rebbe to oversee Toras Emes institutions which include today a Yeshiva Gedola, Mesivta, a Talmud Torah in 2 location and a network of kindergartens.
Delivering the keynote will be Rabbi Adin Even Israel (Steinsaltz), the acclaimed Talmud commentator who is also the Rov of the Tzemach Tzedek Shul in the Old City of Jerusalem, which is operated by Toras Emes as well.
The Rebbe once commented about the historic shul that the prayers there go up to the heavens, Rabbi Uzevitz points out.
A line up of international supports to the instititions are mentioned in the dinner invitation: Edwardo Alstein, Shaul Bacher, Shalom Ber Drizin, Leibel Zussman, Meir Zeiler, Sam Malamud, G. Messr, Peter Kolmes and David Schottenstein.
The honorees at the dinner will be Akiva Brewnmaster of Australia and Shlomo Markowitz of Mexico.
A special guest from New York will be Rabbi Leibel Groner, who served as a Mazkir for the Rebbe for over 40 years. He will be speaking about the Chabad Rebbes special connection to Toras Emes since its inception.
Music star Lipa Shmeltzer will be singing Chabad niggunim, accompanied by the Toras Emes children’s choir.
The price per person is $125 for the dinner.
