For 8 months Thursday night was Mishmor night, for Oholei Torah Zal and students of Lubavitcher Yeshiva’s 7th and 8th grades.
Each Thursday night big bochur and little bochur would learn, farbreng, snack and play together.
This Thursday night the Bochurim celebrated the end of the first successful year of Mishmor in Crown Heights with a grand banquet and awards ceremony.
The evening was MC’d by the mastermind of the entire project, Chida Lavitansky, who introduced each of the evening’s speakers.
“Mishmor has meant a lot to me,” said Shuie Samuels, a proud student of Lubavitcher Yeshiva, as he described to the audience the tremendous impact Mishmor has had on him.
Mendy Elberg, curently studying in the Oholei Torah Bais Midrash, put it this way: “Each week, I look forward to Thursday night. I look forward to studying with my younger Chavrusah.”
Rabbi Y. Simpson, principal of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva, described the importance of the program and thanked the organizers for their outstanding work and for really making Mishmor what it turned out to be.
Rabbi Turk then concluded the speeches by thanking each of the organizers: Chida Lavitansky, Zevi Gutleizer, Shimon Dashevsky, Mendel Chesney and all the Oholei Torah bochrim for making this happen.
Chida Levitansky then handed out the awards for those who came every week and learned with diligence. The top 3 Mishmor go-ers were Mendel Shubov of the 8th grade followed by Simcha Haberman and Yaakov Barber of the 7th grade, each of whom was awarded an entire set of Sefer Hamamorim Melukat.
Each Chavrusa then posed for a picture; big bochur and little bochur together, which will very soon be added to the Yeshiva wall of fame.
The conclusion of the evening was definitely its highlight as the amazing memories of Mishmor flashed before their eyes with an outstanding video presentation and recap of the past 8 months.

Great Job Zevi!!!
Zevi Gutlaizer for arranging it
Chida Levitansky for running it
Shimon Dashevsky for arranging the learning material
Mendy Chesney for handling the snacks
And most of all, the man that got a standing ovation by the dinner and without whom this would’ve just stayed a dream, Rabbi Shmuly Turk!
WOW…I am so impressed! Keep up the great work.
GO CHIDA! you rock
Chida Levitanski for running the program, Zevi Gutleizer for organizing it, Shimon Dashevsky for arraging the learning material and Mendy Chesney for making sure that there was enough snacks and drinks to give energy for the learning.
The article missed the part where Rabbi Shmuly Turk got a standing ovation from the kids and bochurim by the dinner. without him, none of this would have been possible.
What an amazing program this was! I’m still not sure who takes the credit for this, but either way these Olei Torah boys did an amazing job. My son loved it and always looked forward to it.
Go Chida your Father is shepping lots of nachas
