Mrs. Yenta Perel Feiner, a respected and longtime member of the Chabad community in Los Angeles, passed away on Friday, 3 Iyar, 5781.
She was 99 years old.
She was born in a small town near Lviv, Ukraine to Belzer Chassidim. When the Second World War broke out, she survived by being sent to Siberia where she worked very hard and helped save her family and survive in the labor camp.
After the war, she married Moishe Mendel Feiner and lived in DP camps (“displaced persons”) in Pocking and Felderfing, Germany together with several other Lubavitcher families.
They eventually moved to New York where they forged a close relationship with the Rebbe and merited many lengthy Yechidus audiences with the Rebbe. The Rebbe gave them advice and blessings regarding health and finances.
In the 1960s, the Feiners moved to Los Angeles and with the guidance of the Rebbe they purchased many properties to make a
retirement home which eventually became the campus of Yeshiva Ohr Elchanan Chabad today.
Since a young age, she was known for her chesed, kindness, caring and philanthropy. Family members recall how she always danced at simchas and was positive and upbeat. Her famous motto was “Kinder aun gelt is a shaina velt!” (children and money is a beautiful world).
She is survived by her children, R’ Shmaryahu Feiner – Jerusalem, Israel; Mrs. Tzivia (Sylvia) Weintraub – Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Glickel Schwadron – Jerusalem, Israel; R’ Yisroel Zev Feiner – Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
