Gottesman was born in 5712 in Israel and was raised in Gary, Indiana, near Chicago. Upon meeting Merkos Shluchim at the age of 14 and was convinced to go to a Yeshiva.
He arrived in Montreal alone in 5725. R’ Shaya Treitel OBM and his wife Mrs. Tuky Treitel took him in as a member of the family.
Gottesman studied in the educational system of Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch, also known as the Rabbinical College of Canada, established by the Shluchim of the Frierdiker Rebbe.
His roommate in the Yeshiva dormitory was Manis Friedman, who would became a longtime Shliach in Minnesota and renowned lecturer and author.
With the Yeshiva being a center for the Chabad community, Gottesman was a regular there, attending minyanim, farbrengens and events. He was later elected as a Gabbai of the Shul of the Yeshiva.
During his professional career, he held significant roles at Air Canada and later worked as a bookkeeper at Beth Rivka Academy of Montreal, Bais Chabad Montreal Torah Center and Camp Pardes Chana for girls.

He will be sorely missed.
A true soldier
Yudi was born in Israel.
This hurts more than anything else. The world will forever remain scarred from this.
Is there any information as to where Mrs. Bassy Gottessman will be sitting Shiva?
Immediately after Kevurah, at the Ohel for short time,
and then at home in Montreal
Yudi was a giant of a man. Always had a kind and caring word. He was an emese Yid and always looked out for and cared for another Jew. Yudi did things without making a fuss. Quietly helping others with dignity.
We lost someone special. His Aishes chayil should have many long happy and healthy years!
The MTC community will miss him dearly!
Was a true Chosid and shulchon aroch yid with a kind heart. He will be truly missed
Baruch dayan haemes.
We will miss you Yudi. Bassy , may HaShem give you a Nechama with Moshiach now!

It’s sad to see one of our community members go
Yudi was a very special neshama. Always positive, always a kind word. Always there to help someone. This is a great loss to the montreal community.
May Hashem comfort Bassie in this very trying time
Remember when I was 13 and R’ Yudi helped me out. Such an emeser real person. Such a good person. Am sick to know he passed. Same for Mickey Gottesman, who I didn’t know passed until this thread. Happy people, weren’t related but just the most amazing people and now not here. Unbelievable. Hashem Ad Mosai, for real!
