There is a lot of ignorance here. Some of you may be too young to remember the very public choices he made in his personal life, and you may not have fully understood the disturbed, dysfunctional messages in his films. He may be smart but his perspective is not real or constructive. There’s no need to say more.
Maybe because you don’t know very much about him? Get ready for a dysfunctional film that probably has a dysfunctional piece about religious Jews and nothing to do with the truth- and don’t expect it to provide you with a healthy perspective on life.

I doubt Mr. Allen qualifies because as far as I know he really didn’t grow up with knowing yiddishkeit. He’s probably more of a tinuk shenishba. I I agree someone should have asked him if he wants to put on tefillin. I really hope they don’t stay too long however. I find my neighborhood as a film site somewhat distasteful.

It is not a Woody Allen movie but to film in a frum community this schmutz, even if it will be a comedy, is wildly inappropriate. I hope a frum couple did not rent out their house for this project. People should be protesting this filiming outside but you guys are all good little lambs and didn’t research the topic.
Woody is the one who has lived well and is successful in his chosen career path and who is the reason for all the fanfare, including COL posting this and people posting their greptzes. Everyone else is a bystander. You can criticise and krechtz, or kvell, but he rules in this, not you or me.

…when I was very young and not-so-frum/Lubavitch, a friend and I went to see Woody Allen at a club where he played jazz weekly and greeted the public after the gig. I told him that there is a story in the Talmud about the two men who would go into the marketplace like batlanim and make jokes to cheer everyone up, and that they earned the highest place in heaven for doing so. Don’t know if that mekareved him at all — let others try now!
