In the months of March and April, COVID rates in Crown Heights were at an all time high, leaving many elderly and at-risk individuals locked up in their homes.
The students at Machon L’Yahadus were determined to find a way to use this time to assist others, the question was just how?
The students quickly mobilized, volunteering their time to run essential errands for homebound individuals.
From grocery shopping to pharmacy pick ups, no errand was too trivial and they were all carried out with a full heart and a masked face hiding a friendly smile.
Hundreds of deliveries were carried out during the early days of the lockdown.
“It was really heartwarming to see the desire of the students to help community members in need.” Rabbi Shloma Majeski, dean of Machon L’Yahadus shared. “In a time when so many were hunkered down, our students stepped up to the plate to make a difference.”
Machon L’Yahadus is always looking for ways to give back to the community that hosts their students and shows up, time and again, to support them in their Jewish journey.
