There are laws against slander

And even in societies when no such laws exist, why would we be allowed to talk about them? We know that its like murder….??

I wish more had been said...

Lashon harah is not slander. (Slander being a false statement.)

With respect to the rav and to the letter of the law, I do wish more had been said here in the way of middas hachassidus. I’m sure we all know about making a kiddush Hashem, about showing respect to every human being, common sense, and the effect on ourselves when we engage in negative thought and speech.

Lashon harah is a TRUE statement that is negative, has a negative connotation, or might have a negative effect.

We hear every so often about a “goy” that reveals (or himself discovers) that he is a Jew.

Imagine speaking loshon hara about this person, and only later learning that he is actually a Jew!

Even a remote possibility of transgressing such a serious avayroh MUST be avoided!!

Would you ever eat meat that is only probably kosher?!
