Jewish women associated with Orthodox, Conservative and Reform denominations in the Kingston, PA, area united this past weekend over a candle.
Shabbos candles were kindled at the home of Rabbi Mendy and Malka Seewald to mark a year since the murder of Rabbi Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg, the slain Shluchim to Mumbai.
Seewald, a principal at Bais Menachem – Youth Development Program in Wilkes-Barre, PA, told participants about the devotion of the Holtzbergs to spreading Judaism in India.
Coins were handed to the women and girls for charity before they lit the candles and said the prayer.
8 year-old Sarah’le Seewald recited the blessing, with participants repeating after her, then they lit the candles – some for the very first time.
After davening was completed, all were welcomed to a Shabbos dinner. The men farbrenged together, as the women spoke about increasing in good deeds in memory of the Holtzbergs.
