Woman Killed in Stabbing Attack

The army announced that the IDF soldier who was killed in the terror attack in Tel Aviv on Monday afternoon was twenty-year-old Sergeant Almog Shiloni of Modi’in. 

Shiloni was a soldier in the Air Force.

Shiloni succumbed to his wounds hours after being stabbed in Tel Aviv near Hahagana train station.

A woman was killed in a stabbing attack at the Alon Shvut junction in the Gush Etzion area of the West Bank on Monday.

According to an initial investigation into the attack, a car pulled up to the hitchhiking post at the entrance to the Alon Shvut settlement. The driver then stepped out of the car and stabbed three people, killing 25-year-old Dalia Lamkus.

The guard stationed at the entrance to the settlement shot the terrorist, seriously wounding him.

The incident occurred meters away from the location where three Israeli teens — Eyal Yifrah, Naftali Fraenkel and Gil-Ad Shaer — were kidnapped and then killed in June.

Also on Monday, a Palestinian teenager stabbed and critically wounded a young Israeli soldier on Monday as unrest which has already rocked Jerusalem and the north spread to coastal Tel Aviv.

Police described the incident as a terror attack and said the perpetrator, who was arrested shortly afterwards, was a Palestinian in his late teens from the northern West Bank who had been staying in Israel illegally.

A spokesman for the Magen David Adom ambulance service said the Israeli soldier, aged about 20, was rushed to the hospital after Monday’s stabbing at the HaHagana train station in southern Tel Aviv.

“I saw the terrorist, in a red shirt and jeans, running in the direction of Levanda Street … I chased him, and came back and saw the soldier writhing on the ground,” an unidentified witness said on Israel Radio.

“It was apparently an attack with nationalist motives. The suspect is a resident of the Nablus area,” police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

The attacker was arrested while hiding in a nearby apartment building. Emergency services spokesman Zaki Heller said the victim was “very seriously hurt”, with footage from the scene showing a man lying in pools of blood.

“I got to HaHagana bridge with a friend and we saw a big man in a red sweatshirt stabbing a soldier twice, apparently someone from the air force,” an eyewitness called Kobi told public radio.

The victim has been identified and the public is asked to say tehillim for Almog Yissocher ben Michal.

The attacker was identified by family members as 17-year-old Nureddine Abu Hashiyeh from Askar refugee camp east of Nablus.

“These are difficult days in Israel. Today there was another terrorist attack, on a soldier. We must fight terrorism,” Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Israel’s chief peace negotiator in talks with the Palestinians that collapsed in April, said on Twitter. There was no immediate Palestinian comment.

Five days ago, a Palestinian rammed his car into pedestrians in central Jerusalem, the second such incident of its kind in as many weeks, killing two Israelis. Police shot the driver dead.

After those attacks, Israeli authorities placed large concrete blocks on train platforms in Jerusalem to serve as obstacles to any vehicles attempting to ram into commuters.
