The documentary titled “With My Whole Broken Heart,” produced by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI), will be aired online on Sunday, Tisha B’Av 5781 a few years after it was screened at Chabad centers worldwide.
It was written and directed by Michael Kigel, creator of the popular series Passages and Messages on Canadian television (CTS), and produced by Yisroel Silman.
The film tells how 2 Jewish teenagers were hiking near their homes in Israel in the summer of 2001 when they were stoned to death by Palestinian terrorists. A few months later, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and murdered in Karachi, Pakistan; his last words: “My father’s Jewish, my mother’s Jewish, I’m Jewish.”
It is a professionally produced and emotionally gripping film featuring heart-wrenching stories of valiant parents whose children’s lives were claimed by terror and their inspiring responses to their horrific experiences.
The 45-minute documentary also follows the lives of 2 of the youngest survivors of Auschwitz and Buchenwald who emerged from the darkness and transformed the Jewish landscape – former Israeli Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau and Rabbi Nissan Mangel, noted author and rabbi in Brooklyn.
Framed around the Rebbe‘s response to the 1956 terror attack in Kfar Chabad that claimed lives of 5 students, the film highlights the Jewish response to tragedy and suffering, conveying a message of hope and promise. The documentary features interviews with Ruth and Judea Pearl, parents of Daniel Pearl; Sherri Mandell, mother of the slain Kobi Mandell.
