Rav Wallis did everything he could to avoid the coronavirus, because he knew he had health issues. And so he treasured shabbos more than ever, because it brought kedusha into their home after so many days spent inside from morning until night. They don’t know how he could have caught it, but he did. And after just one week of illness, he passed away, leaving behind a devastated Rebbetzin and 9 children.
This shabbos, the Wallis meal was quiet. The clink of forks and knives and the chewing of food dropped off by sympathetic neighbors barely masked the quiet sobs of a family in despair. As Rav Wallis’s son made kiddush in the place of his father, no one was able to hold back their tears. And as Rebbetzin Wallis went to the kitchen and looked into the fridge, she wondered how they will be able to afford groceries once the generosity of their community runs out.
The Wallis family needs our help, not just for shabbos, but this week as well, and the weeks to come – to know that without their beloved father, and the support he brought in, they will be able to survive.
Readers can wish the Wallises a ‘gut voch’ by donating to their emergency fund.
