The Rebbe's Explanation Satisfactorily Answers All Questions
October 11, 2011 1:30 am

The Rebbe’s Sicha is in Likkutei Sichos volume 29, p. 211. He deals with the question why Tzaddikim of previous generations did sleep in the Suka in footnote 13 — explaining that their sleep was not a mere natural phenomenon but refelcted their extremely high spiritual level, which was comensurate with “Makifim D’Bina.” It is noteworthy that in an English letter by the Rebbe from the 1950’s or 1960’s, sent to a Rabbi who asked him about this, the Rebbe replied (the following is based on memory, as I don’t have the letter before me) that this custom is based… Read more »

Every Question Has An Answer

When the question arrives from a non Chassidisher or a non Lubavicher, that it is the Halocho to sleep in the Succah.
it is important to determend the source and the intentions where it is coming from, before reflecting the complete answer, the best consumer is an educated consumer.

The rebbe said (by dollars and in likkutei sichos volume 29) that the rebbeim did not sleep in the sukka, since they felt the kedusha of the succah and could not fall asleep, and “some” chassidim follow the rebbeim’s custom. The rebbe asked how could it be that the rabbeim were lenient in this mitzva, and how are the chassidim who do not feel the succas kedusha exempt from this mitzva? About the rabbeim see at length in the above mentioned sicha. About chassidim he says that since these chassidim are so attached to their rebbe that they not only… Read more »

Actaully, if you take a look in customs for sukkos in Seder haminhagim you wont find that “chassidim don’t sleep in sukkah”, and the rebee himself authored that part of seferhaminhagim. (You’ll find that we Dont decorate)
in the sicha (Luk”s volume 29) it states “some chassidim Dont sleep in the Sukka”, I actually know of prominent chassidim.in the previous generation who did Sleep in Sulla.

Beautiful Vort!
