Comedian Mendy Pellin once joked that it was a matter of time until shoe stores in Crown Heights will have in-house sushi bars while you get your feet measured.
He came to that conclusion because sushi in the Jewish neighborhood was available in stores primarily serving other food services (grocery, bakery and restaurants).
Until now.
Sushi Spot II, which will be opening its doors Monday, October 10, will be the first only-sushi eatery here – and that won’t be its only uniqueness.
“The goal is to have the best sushi, friendliest service, quickest delivery,” said Dovid Hershkowitz, who is also a general contractor. “It will also be the most clean – we painted the walls white so you can see how spotless it will be.”
Located at 426 Kingston Avenue, between Montgomery Street and Empire Boulevard, there is seating for 16 people in addition to free delivery (“very quick and efficient”) and even curbside pickup (“Pull up and we’ll bring your order right to your car with a smile.”)
Hershkowitz hired two chefs, one of them with experience in a prestigious non Jewish restaurant. Sushi Spot II is kosher under the supervision of the Crown Heights Kosher (CHK).
From a peek COLlive got of the menu, we found a total of 74 types of sushi rolls, among them Dragon, Godzilla, Fashionista, Crab Lover, Hava Nagillah, Sakura, Tiger, Mexican, Volcanic Eruption and even a Kingston Avenue Roll.
There are 20 vegetable rolls and in the tempura rolls menu, there are Toasted Bagel Roll, Over the Top Roll, OMG! Roll, Firecracker Roll, Spice Fest Roll and Sammy Roll.
Appetizers include edamame, kani salad, sweet potato tempura fries, kani poppers and crispy rice (choice of spicy tuna or guacamole).
“People are already coming over to the store and thanking me for opening it,” Hershkowitz told COLlive.com. “We will be getting fresh fish every day and there is no extra charge for brown rice.”
They will be offering party and event platters in a few sizes and a Shabbos platter of 64 assorted sushi pieces.
The lowest priced roll is $3.60. The highest? Well, that depends on your appetite starting this Monday.

it may be nice to have a sushi store. but we already have so many food (sushi) stores in CH. what about clothing – shoes – electronics and so many more stores that are needed.
I agree with you. Are we such fressers that we need
another food store?? How about a decent shoe store
or mens clothing?
It’s awesome
This is genious!! Its about time they opened up a place like this! Much success!!
because they have nothing to hide and want you to see the cleanliness!!!!!!!
Find it in the supermarket and it costs much less.,too.
Homemade food is the best!!!
we need women’s shoe stores to open up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
smart move. looking forward
what is in fashionista roll?
I like that empire has sushi like you’re plugging, but the new place is committing to quick deliveries which, at the store I’ve had to wait a while just to have it made and also a list of 80 is one thing. A facility to pump it out is another.
2nd this article is about the new place opening up. Let them have their lime light as empire has it’s attention when it’s their turn.
why did they use clear doors?????
yum!! sooooon all the stores wil be ontop of each other;) theres way to many to choose from, hazlacha on all ur business;)
AWESOME!!!!
That you’re open on Motzaei Shabbos (even in the summer), if your sushi is as good as you claim, then that will be one less CH’er running to flatbush on Motzaei Shabbos for normal sushi.
(Sorry, I’ve ordered from others many times, and they get it right at times, but they swing- and- a- miss many times as well – especially on Motzaei Shabbos, tastes like it was made on Friday…
Nice light fixture!
Yes, i’ts called “rice”, find it at your local grocery.
Wish you could deliver to Sydney.!!! I guess we will just have to drool till our next visit to C.H.
