A beta website is classifying all sorts of whisky, liquor and wine according to their kosher certification.
KWL (Kosher Whisky & Liquor) found at kosherliquorlist.com also reports about alcohols which are authorized but not certified by important rabbinates.
The site does not offer information on how it rates the drinks (its “About Us” page is empty).
An email COLlive has received about the site was signed by Rabbi Shmouel Semelman of the “Jerusalem Religious Council” (the Beis Din in Yerushalayim).
Here are the latest drinks that were reported:
Jameson Gold Reserve, an Irish Whiskey aged in a sherry cask from the beginning of the fabrication, was “Kosher according important poskim” but its “kosher value” dropped to 2 stars from 5.
Smirnoff Orange Twist used to be authorised by Beis Din London, but “not authorised anymore,” the website said.
Irish Mist, labelled the Original Irish Whiskey Liqueur, was once categorized as dairy kosher and is now classified not kosher.
Ouzo 7, the anise-flavored alcoholic beverage widely consumed in Greece and Cyprus, received approval from Rabbinate of Greece, the website said without specifying how reliable the certification was.
The white-bottled Malibu Coconut Rum, was only authorised by the London Beis Din when bottled in Scotland. Check for the barcode 5010284100018, the website said.
I heard there is no beis din by the Jerusalem rabinate. Will somebody please verify before saying “the beis din in Yerushalayim” and also you should know when people in Eretz Yisroel say the badatz Yerushalayim it means Eidah Charedis NOT the Jerusalem rabinate of the state. Please correct your article so there are no michsholos chas vesholom.
seriously…..
call anash in Los Angeles…..
i have used the KSA hechsher for years after i got a very positive report about it from a source i consider reliable. please tell me what you know about it ??? seriously.
Twist Smirnoff kosher with ksa is only the Smirnoff bottled in USA
what was published that it not anymore authorised by Lbd was about Smirnoff from Europe
S.Semelman
Rabanut of Jerusalem
See on the website, there are two sorts of Benedictine, one Kosher and one not Kosher
becuase it only has a ksa hechesher — who uses that hechsher>??
The picture is very misleading, Smirnoff Orange Twist is Kosher with a hechsher and is not even listed on this site.
Why do you have a label across it saying not kosher?!?
Rabbi Shlomo Nathenson, a lubavitcher of L.A. is the main OU mashgiach of california. he said NOT to drink benedictine.
Benedictine is authorized
The site doesn’t sell a thing. Rav Semelman just used a very crude open-source website program that is set up for e-commerce.
Note that Rav Landa has different standards, which many Anash hold by. Rav Semelman’s site is a great overall guide, but check with your own rov regarding whisky, Smirnoff from abroad etc, especially if you want to serve it at an event.
it also sells products – nice he just got free advertising,,,,
this is not how kashrus works… its not a rating of stars!!
But good concept of a comprehensive website
There are already a number of sites that do this including the CRC http://www.crcweb.org/LiquorList.pdf
