By A Crown Heights resident
Residents of Crown Heights have suffered from a tremendous amount of crime the past few months, Yidden are robbed and assaulted daily on our streets, homes have been burglarized, stores robbed, carjackings, vandalism, attempted stabbings. We all know at least 5 people that had their car broken into recently. Everyone has had a package stolen from the doorsteps of their homes at least once (some people many, many times), etc.
And this is all Chas Veshalom going to get many times worse in one months time, comes January 1st once the new horrendous criminal justice reform bills by our progressive mayor and governor come into law and takes effect, which it will basically protect the rights of all the criminals while abandoning the rights of the law-abiding hardworking citizens which are crime victims.
Now, this is nothing new to Crown Heights, this crime and lawlessness of these criminals have been going on since as long as we all remember growing up in Crown Heights.
But the difference is now in today’s day and age, almost in the year 2020, there are excellent surveillance/video cameras that can capture every crime and lead to the arrests of the perpetrators responsible for the crimes, IF we have video cameras everywhere.
Now regardless if we feel that the Police in Crown Heights are or are not doing a good enough job protecting us, or if they do follow up and investigate crimes after they occur or not, the obvious fact is that if the criminal(s) run away from the crime scene (which usually happens) then WITHOUT video surveillance of the crime there is usually a 0 percent chance that the perpetrators would be apprehended later on.
Yes even with video cameras most criminals will still likely commit a crime, but over the past 10 years dozens and dozens of crimes that occurred in Crown Heights, the Police were able to apprehend the perpetrators after the crime by getting a clear picture of them from Surveillance/Video Cameras and either recognizing them from past interactions with the police or spotting them (many times with the help of our community spotting them, both our amazing community patrols spotting them, and many times with the help of COLlive publishing the wanted images/videos) on the street and the Police being able to arrest them. Unfortunately many many of the crimes that did occur in the past in Crown Heights there were no video cameras in that area and there was not really much to investigate because the Police did not know who to look for.
BH in Crown Heights walking down the streets you can see lately many houses, stores and buildings that have video cameras, Thank You to these homeowners, store owners and building owners which have installed video cameras, you not only invested in helping to protect your property, but you invested in your community, because of the video cameras which covers the sidewalk and street outside your property that you put up, when crimes occurred in that area, many many criminals were apprehended over the last 10 years in Crown Heights because of your video footage.
But there are so many more houses (many alleys in Crown Heights as well), stores (stores on Kingston, Albany, Troy and all the other streets, etc), and many smaller buildings in Crown Heights that don’t have video cameras.
This is A Call to Action! We Must FLOOD our streets in Crown Heights with Video Cameras, Nobody will do it for you but you, The only Cameras that the city is investing in CH is more Speed Cameras and Bus Lane Cameras to Ticket us more.
If your home or store neighbor has video cameras, instead of thinking that at least near your home is covered by video surveillance, join your neighbor and put up video cameras on your home as well.
By placing video cameras on your property, you are not just helping to protect your property, you are helping to protect your community, our community, the Rebbe’s community.
Yes Surveillance/Video Cameras are not cheap (they are much more affordable then it used to be), but this is crucial and extremely important for everyone that can afford it to purchase and install on their property Video Cameras.
Together hopefully if we can have much of Crown Heights flooded with Surveillance/Video Cameras then at the best some criminals will use their brains and go to another neighborhood which does not have many cameras and do their crimes there, and at the worst chas veshalom, at least we all will be able to help with video footage to identify the criminals to the Police.
If everyone can please write in the comments section below recommendations, the names and phone numbers for local Lubavitchers in Crown Heights that install video/surveillance cameras for all those wanting to have video/surveillance cameras installed on their property.
A Concerned CH Resident.
I had a very big Gineva recently, all of it was on camera, police did nothing. I gave them lots of footage, but nothing..
Was a very big loss, and still did not get over it.
Cameras are very important though. when something serious happens ch”v. Like a attack etc. But unfortunately
The law system here is the worst!
So before you know it, the guy is out free again
There was a shooting last week Tuesday on Union street and Brooklyn Ave. The police haven’t even come to request the video footage from the any of the neighbors! The sergeant said that it’s not considered a serious issue if no one was hit! Can you imagine? A sergeant in the 71 precinct saying that it’s not a serious issue when no one one was hit! 5 bullets shot one block from Oholei Torah, children walking the street at 5PM and the police think this is not serious. Where are the elected officials? Where is the Vaad Hakahal? Where is… Read more »
they came to me and looked through my footage and took a copy on a usb, and they told me they were making their rounds on foot, so im guessing you werent home when they came for the footage, if you have a camera
I know that from experience. And did they actually make an effort to catch the perpetrator in your case after ‘they took a copy on USB’? I’m guessing nothing ever happened after that.
I’ve almost never seen that in Crown Heights in over 20 years except on labor day where they stand together in crowds on the corners.
like the terrorist that murdered a Jewish woman by throwing her our of her balcony, and was then later released from prison.
Hands down best person to hire to do that job.
Gets it down quick very well prices and amazing customer service

Do u think why inside the big stores there almost no crime, not because of the cameras but because of the security crew that sits there and monitor all cameras and if see any suspicious activity they will act as a security ….
who will monitor all CH?
They could watch footage before during and after.
You can’t watch so many households and streets to spot the crime before it will happen. You need to monitor constantly 24/7 big residential area.
Ps. All crime was on video they do it openly, because no one looking for them, specially the package 📦 chives…..
not police . only too give tickets
The eibershter is our guardian.
Moshe did a fabulous job!

crime is probably not solved with a one dimensional answer. Cameras can help. As can learning how and when to defend yourself. As can getting licensed for a handgun and learning how to use it. As can carrying mace. As can yelling for help. As can educating the criminals. As can tweaking the legal system so that “minor” offenses and crimes incur consequences or rehabilitation that act as real deterrent to future crimes. Also, while any and every crime is noteworthy and important to try to prevent, and Crown Heights (and other areas of Brooklyn) Jews (and non-Jews) suffer an… Read more »
Simple yet brilliant solution. Lets nip crime in the bud and protect ourselves with video surveillance.
It’ll deter criminals and show them they will not get away with their evil actions.
Im inspired to buy video cameras now and you should too.
Ill call B&H tomorrow BEH…
if it was decreed that someone wil lose a certain amount of money or get attacked it may be stopped through one instance because of cameras but if the eibershter decreed you will lose a certain amount of money cameras aren’t going to help. make a hachlata to learn an extra half an hour a week or have more kavana in davening and say the words slower. this is the way to get rid of the horrors.
This is a good idea. It’s possible that these are reminders from Hashem to connect to him more because we are beginning to stray. May Hashem protect us from all evil.
there is a whole inyan that you need to make a cli for brochos if someone gives you delicious soup you need something to put it on and in this case the cameras are the cli
We used Moshe from Emes security recently. Her was efficient and competitive priced.
we have to remember that its a gezeira min hashomayim. the real answer is to do teshuva and ingrease torah and tefila
How about starting with the basics of turning on the light in from if your home so the streets are well lit !!its sad how many people can’t turn a basic light . Encourage your landlord to keep the porch light on! It’s for your safety and the safety of others
Our streets are too dark, even main Eastern Parkway is too dark. City cut the bill but who suffered?
Other than the very important street lights, every household has the option of fixing light on the facade, or in front of the house.
With today’s LED lights the monthly expenses is minimal.
Many blocks here are terrifying to walk on at night, as the trees cast shadows and block the street lights.
Building could fix one or two floodlights on their side.
Albany Ave, for example, used to be very scary at night until lights were added on sides of buildings.
It’s a one- time expense for the fixing, that could actually save life.

so so right. its an emergency. Can the big wigs get police cameras on poles in our neighborhood??
Who will install cameras at cost price so everyone can offered it???
My recommendation: ALEX from Advanced Security.
Great job and very nice heimishe person.
He is doing a lot of Cameras in CH.
His Phone: 347 680-2995
Good idea… more security men hired in street also.
If law enforcement was willing to enforce the law when these acts were perpetrated against the Jewish community c”v.. then it would hypothetically work. But even if they aren’t, at least the footage will help when we have to take things further.
THAT was the city’s response. No matter what the excuse, the city can decide where to allocate and where not to allocate.
I propose a “gofundme” or sponsored raffle to get as many cameras set up as possible. We have to defend ourselves like we have always done throughout history.
Self defense is a whole other matter- one which we don’t seem to be quite ready for yet for some reason..
1. Preventive, be aware of your surroundings and be aware.
if they have a gun, they will choose someone who will be easy.
2. Carry legal defense protection like pepper spray, mace.https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004NKSPR8/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_5?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Hurt them so hard they will invent a new anti movement to assault c”v.
Amazon won’t ship pepper spray to NY.
But eBay will.
I bought pepper spray on eBay
