A seminar for Chabad rabbis in Russia was canceled due to the cloud of volcanic ash flowing from Iceland spreading from northern and western Europe to the south and the east.
Some 50 Shluchim remained grounded after the airports in the Russian capital of Moscow shut down.
They were scheduled to spend three days at the annual convention, discussing halachic and communal matters with Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar and guests from around the world.
COLlive was told that although preparations were made at the Gan Israel educational campus in the outskirts of Moscow, the summit will be rescheduled.
“We’re hoping for the clouds to leave so the rabbis can fly here in the next few days,” an organizer said.
In other news, more than 100 Jewish passengers grounded because of the volcanic dust spent Shabbos at the Chabad House of Hendon in London.
“We’ve had a lot of people calling up wanting a place to eat, a place to sleep,” Shliach Rabbi Dovid Katz told The Jewish Chronicle before Shabbos.
“We have a massive pot of chicken soup ready.”
Having recently run a Pesach Seder for 300 people, mostly Israelis, in Golders Green, Rabbi Katz said: “It makes me feel like Pesach is happening again!”

Theres 20 countries in Europe that all the airports are closed, (including where i live) and only 4 of the countries are open! Tomorrow might get worse!!!!
