Virgin America, a U.S. based low-cost airline, is offering to gift $25,000 to a Boston cause or organization based on the votes of local residents.
One of the contenders is Friendship Circle of Sharon, MA. Run under the auspices of Chabad Shliach Rabbi Chaim and Sara Wolosow, the organization brings together teenage volunteers and children with special needs for hours of fun and friendship.
While Virgin is asking Bostonians how they are “re-thinking the rules, creating change and supporting causes that matter,” staff at the Friendship
Circle believe they are doing just that.
“These shared experiences empower children with special needs, while enriching the lives of everyone involved,” Rabbi and Mrs. Wolosow wrote in their application.
“Children with special needs bloom and gain the confidence they need to make the most their abilities and talents. Teenage volunteers learn the priceless value of giving. Parents and siblings receive much-needed needed respite and support from the Friendship Circle community, and all those who assist it.”
Titled “Declare your revolution!” Virgin America is also sending two winners and their guests across the world on Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic, and V Australia.
Any 501(c) 3 organization who is nominated, has high votes, and is approved by Virgin America will be entered for a chance to receive the donation. The winning organization will be recognized at Virgin America’s launch party in Boston on February 11, 2009.
