The Gedaliah Society presents an update on measles in our community.
The Gedaliah Society, a network of Chabad medical professionals, has been in touch with local practitioners and the following is their update of the situation.
There has been a secondary case of “modified“ measles, closely related to the first case almost 3 weeks ago. (“Modified” measles occurs in previously vaccinated individuals, and seems BH to be less infectious.)
The secondary person was at a Simcha out of town earlier this week and became ill two days later.
This secondary person had been vaccinated twice (hence has modified measles) and was unlikely to have been “highly” contagious at the Simcha, but may have been somewhat contagious.
As of this time the recommendation is the same: if you have not received the MMR vaccine, please do so. For specific questions, please turn to your health care provider. At this time there is hopefully no obvious threat of an “outbreak” and no need to panic. Be well and have a good Shabbos!

Israel had around 3000 cases of measles and 2 deaths. That’s about 1 death per 1500 cases. This relatively high death rate still occurs in countries with good health care.
Those who are engaging in measles parties are grossly uninformed about how fatal measles can be.
why can’t they make an option for parents who are scared of vaccinations where they only give for the more fatal diseases?
Why is it either nothing by using the religious exemption ( although most antivaxers don’t refuse vaccinations for religious reasons) or everything since once you don’t take the religious exemption you are required to take everything?
I heard that a brooklyn doctor is giving the second booster shot at age 18 months. Is this necessary? I believe in vaccines but this is concerning. Would like your thoughts
Your figure of 1 out of 1000 does not apply in the USA, that’s a worldwide figure in other words in places with inadequate health facilities.
For those asking about deaths from measles vs deaths from the the mmr vaccine. 2 people, a baby and an elderly person died from the measles this past year in Israel. Deaths from measles are low because most people are vaccinated and immune. Should everyone decide to stop vaccinating and leave it up to nature and the measles is once again able to spread (9 out of 10 people who are non-immune and are exposed to the measles will be infected) G-d forbid, the rate of deaths would certainly increase. “In the decade before 1963 when a vaccine became available,… Read more »
The Rebbe was aware of the risks yet encouraged vaccination.

Measles causes encephalitis and pneumonia and before mass vaccination began in the 1980s, measles killed nearly 2.6 million people a year, according to the World Health Organization. It still kills more than 100,000 people a year, mostly children under five. One in 1,000 people who catch measles die of it.

How many deaths are caused by the MMR vaccine. How many deaths are caused by measles
According to the CDC ( which is very pro vaccines) the last measles related death in the usahappened in 2015
Some people blame every learning disability that their kids have on vaccines . Some say that there is absolutely no side effects to vaccines. None are correct. Vaccines are safe but not perfect and some people are more sensitive than others.
of people who die because of the vacinne?
That little graphic above says “measles isn’t just a rash it could cause……and lists five things and one is a runny nose??????!!!!?!?!?!?!? Please I know there are extreme RARE cases of very uncomfortable circumstances caused by measles but why take the risk of terrible side effects of a vaccine that doesnt even work properly according to the article where the lady had TWO vaccinnation!
The secondary case, does not live in Crown Heights ,and has not visited in the past week, but was in contact with CH residents at the simcha out of town
