Lubavitch institutions and organizations are once again vying for a cash prise from the 4th installment of the Chase Community Giving contest.
Introduced in 2009 as a new method of corporate contribution, JP Morgan Chase & Co. will be allocating over $3 million in grant to 100 charities selected online.
Users of social network Facebook will be determining how and to who Chase donates the millions of dollars.
The Fall 2011 program will award a share of the grants through one round of voting between November 8 at 12:00 pm EST and November 22 at 11:59 am EST.
The charity receiving the most votes during that time will be awarded the top grant of $250,000.
Charities finishing in places 2nd — 5th will be awarded $100,000 and charities placing 6th – 100th will receive $25,000.
“This year, very few Chabad / Jewish organizations are eligible for the contest,” notes Yaakov Horowitz, founder of the Small Wonder Puppet Theater, a Crown Heights based production, which is in the contest.
To be eligible for the Fall program, charities must be a registered 501(c)(3) public charity with annual operating expenses below $1 million and meet other requirements as described in the program’s rules.
Horowitz said he he registered the Puppet Theater, known for memorable puppets such as the elderly gentleman from Russia Uncle Pinchy, as a non-profit organization a few years ago to better research the results of using puppetry for teaching and helping special-needs children.
There are a few Chabad organization, all focused on helping children with special-needs, that are in the contest as well.
+ YALDEI SHLUCHEI HAREBBE SPECIAL NEEDS ORGANIZATION (supports and assists Shluchim who are raising children with special needs).
+ SMALL WONDER PUPPET THEATRE INC
+ FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE OF GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, FL
+ FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE OF CONNECTICUT
Other Chabad institutions that needs your online vote are:
+ TORAH TOTS ACADEMY INC – BOCA RATON, FL
+ CHAI SENIORS INC – MIAMI, FL
+ SMILE ON SENIORS OF NORTHRIDGE, CA
+ CHABAD COMMUNITY CENTER – BUFFALO GROVE, IL
You must find it and show it to your kids. It’s a staple of a young child’s upbringing to watch Uncle Pinchey!! I feel bad for my friends who never watched it 🙂
