With the current war in Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7, there is an unprecedented amount of soldiers currently stationed in Northern Israel. Heading out in multiple groups, the bochurim of Tzeirei Hashluchim of Tzfas have reached thousands of soldiers throughout Chanukah, uplifting them as they wait for further orders.
Following the Rebbe’s directives to bring the joy of Chanukah “to every Jew no matter where,” the bochurim danced and made a public Menorah lighting at each base, giving the soldiers a much-needed boost of energy and inspiration. “You have made us happy in our hearts,” said a commander to a bochur after one of the visits, with the bochurim feeling lucky to be able to show our appreciation to our courageous soldiers protecting Am Yisrael.
In addition to the regular jelly donuts for the soldiers, over 3,500 cans of energy drinks were given out. The bochurim also made full-scale barbecues and pizza parties for the soldiers, complete with wings and steaks, as well as a pizza oven for fresh hot pizza on the base. Many soldiers expressed gratitude, mentioning that it was their first hot meal since being drafted two months ago, thanking all those who helped make it happen.
The Shluchim partnered with Jewish Education Media (JEM) to bring the Rebbe’s words to the frontlines. Beautiful wallet-sized hardcover cards with a picture of the Rebbe, together with a letter to the IDF soldiers from after the 1973 Yom Kippur War were printed and given out. As the security situation in Israel changes day by day, it could not be a better time for the soldiers to know the great zechus they have to protect the Jewish nation and its land, as well the constant protection and supervision they have from Hashem in their holy work.
From the army bases with thousands of soldiers, to the lonely outposts overlooking the border, thousands of soldiers were touched by the joy of Chanukah by the bochurim, with the bochurim feeling the zechus they have to bring the light of Yiddishkeit to everyone, no matter how far they are or how dark it may be.
The Shluchim of Tzeirei Hashluchim Tzfas would like to thank the 350+ people who made this Chanukah Mivtzoim the success it was through www.raisethon.com/lightupthenorth, and would also like to thank the following Shluchim who partnered up with them making this possible.
