On the 7th night of Chanukah this year, Johannesburg witnessed a historic event of Pirsumei Nissa and Jewish pride, as hundreds of men, women and children in vehicles adorned with radiant car-top Menorahs, paraded through the streets spreading the light of Moshiach and the Chanukah spirit.
This exceptional Menorah parade, inspired by the Rebbe’s guidance, was organized and run by Mendel Gurewicz and Levi Konikov and the Bochurim of Yeshiva Gedolah Lubavitch.
The lively procession journeyed throughout the streets of Glenhazel and its neighboring suburbs, making spirited stops at various Jewish establishments throughout the city.
In a world where expressing Jewish identity can face challenges, this parade served as a resounding statement of pride for onlookers.
The local Jewish Community Security Organisation – the CSO, played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the event, emphasizing the commitment to a joyous and secure celebration.
The festivities reached a memorable conclusion at the Kosher World supermarket, featuring a public Menorah lighting, an engaging fire show, lively music and dancing, and of course; latkes and donuts. This culminating spectacle added an extra layer of joy and celebration, making the event a memorable and uplifting experience for all involved.
Throughout the night, a powerful message resonated: the importance of spreading light and positivity, never giving up, and never succumbing to darkness: “Am Yisrael Chai!”
The success of this year’s parade showcased the resilience and strength of Yidden in Johannesburg and around the world, fostering a sense of trust and faith, togetherness and celebration.
