With the conclusion of Shloshim – 30 days after the brutal murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan HY”D, a headstone was placed on his grave on Har Hazeisim in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Kogan, 28, was one of the Chabad Shluchim in the United Arab Emirates when he was abducted and then assassinated by Arab terrorists.
In Dubai, he operated a kosher grocery and was known to help both locals from the Jewish community and visitors from around the world with a helping hand and a smile.
Gathered at his grave on Wednesday morning, just hours before the onset of Chanukah, were his relatives, including parents Rabbi Alexander and Etel Kogan of Jerusalem, siblings, and in-law R’ Shmuel Spielman of Crown Heights.
Leading the visit were Rabbi Levi Duchman, Shliach and Chief Rabbi of the United Arab Emirates, and Rabbi Shlomo Peles, who stood by the Kogan family and UAE Shluchim in their time of need.
As a small crowd gathered under the sun, those present heard words of mourning from Rabbi Kogan’s father and sang the niggun, Tzama Lecha Nafshi.
Chabad activities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have continued and are dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Kogan. Three Uzbekistan citizens suspected of the murder were arrested.
